BUFFALO SABRES

After years of minor league hockey in Buffalo, the NHL officially came to western New York on December 2, 1969 during the league’s second wave of expansion. Although originally called the “Bisons,” the team was renamed through a contest with the winning choice being the “Sabres” – a weapon carried by a leader and noted for being swift and strong on offense as well as defense. Notwithstanding the lack of championships, there has been no shortage of great players to make their way through the Sabres organization. Spending a collective 20 years with the Sabres, Pat LaFontaine and Rob Ray amassed points and penalty minutes to become franchise and fan favorites alike. We are fortunate to be working with two of Buffalo’s greatest players to bring you the NHL Alumni Signature Wine Series.
